Aug. 3rd, 2006 @ 12:30 pm This week's Pete story
From popbitch:

>> Baby in the bathwater <<
Pete Doherty needs to get clean

While we all holiday, Pete Doherty seems to
be spending his summer in rehab. Maybe its
about time to start feeling sorry for the moron.
When he visited a friend's house recently
Pete asked if he could have a bath. When
his friend said "of course", Pete started to
cry and said he was too embarrassed because
the water would be so disgustingly dirty.

Am I a bad person because this story really made me laugh? ;)

Jan. 30th, 2005 @ 07:11 pm Music everyone in the world needs to listen to *right now*
This is what I've been doing instead of updating lj:

Tramp Attack
Arctic Monkeys
The 747s (who don't have a website, the fools)
The Little Kicks (ditto)
The Chineapples
Metro Riots (who do have a website but I can't remember what it is)
The Parisians (ditto)
Special Needs (who have several)
The Rakes
The Ludes (by now I can't be bothered with the whole href thing...)

And I suppose I had better say The Morphines as well. Though for everyone in the band except the lead singer.

But if you have to choose, choose The Chineapples. No, make that Tramp Attack. No, make that The 747s. No, Special Needs. No, I'm going with The Chineapples. They write very nice letters when they send you demos.

And if you're reading this, Barry Nicholson, I triple *heart* your Others review in the NME. If you're going to see them in Glasgow, I'll buy you a drink. Well, I would if I knew what you looked like. I thought they weren't terribly brilliant on New Year's Eve but they won my heart in Edinburgh, bless their cotton socks.

I bet at least one of those links is wrong, by the way.

THE WHO frontman ROGER DALTREY has sent out a chilling warning to troubled rocker PETE DOHERTY, advising the former LIBERTINE singer he could face the same tragic fate as his late bandmate KEITH MOON.

The MY GENERATION singer, 60, believes the erratic CAN'T STAND ME NOW star, 25, could end up dead if he continues to spiral out-of-control with his intense drugs habit.

Drummer Moon died in 1978 after overdosing on pills prescribed to help his alcoholism.

Of Doherty, Daltrey says, "He's got the X factor, hasn't he? He's magic to watch. You can't learn that.

"What's so disarming about Peter is that he pretends he's in control, or he thinks he is. But if he's up to everything (with drugs) people say he is, he cannot be in control.

"He is a genius. But I've known many people like that and they're all dead."

I knew she wasn't English as she spoke it far to well
Her grammer was goodly, the verbs as they should be
And her slang was bang on the bell
And as the language barrier clanged and banged
I could not hear, hear or see
England, London, Bow
Crumble into the sea

Did you see Peter on Newsnight the other day? Definitely a good one, but very sad (to me). I've managed to rip the audio from this, and have just enough room left on the Cigale/Documentary disc for it.

So I've finally found the secret of why Carl loves the black-and-white stripey shirt so much. It's because it reminds him of the happy romantic times of the good old days

Interviews: Pete in December Q magazine (with Keane on the cover). After the Clash one, which was Pete at his most charming, this one is Pete at his most shitty. Obviously on drugs, as noted in lurid detail by the journalist, but just, you know, telling lots of stupid nasty lies. The usual stuff about how everything about the Libertines was never right in the first place, a few personal digs at Carl, and yeah, lots and lots of drugs. It's just so fucking tragic, it really made me cry.

However, this was in October, so who knows where he is now? There is such a timelag with the various music magazines. However, with the recent rush of interviews, it seems to me that Pete is still doing something. Maybe not as falling-apart as he was a few months ago. But he so clearly hasn't given up (even though he swears to every new interviewer that he has just cleaned up - and then contradicts himself as to what exactly that means) so any improvement can only be for a moment, while things are going well. He'll fall again as soon as the next thing goes wrong.

Meanwhile: I have listened to Napoleon. I like it. And the second song (From The Darkness) is really great, in a smooth adult jazz kind of a way. There, I've said it - does that make me a bad person? ;)

not a lot online at the moment, so no downloading as yet. Maybe tomorrow?

Archiving here for myself so I can get rid of bookmarks and not have to scan through posts etc.

Peter in Q Magazine, Dec 2004Collapse )

Peter in Clash Magazine, Dec 2004Collapse )

Would it be possible for you to pick up a copy of Clash for me? I've looked around here and can't find it. I can paypal the cost of it to you, but would really like this article and the photos. Also bookmarking the thread at .org.uk because the interviewer is going to post the uncut Q&A at some point apparently.

Peter in The Evening Standard, Metro Life Mag (Dec 2, 2004)Collapse )

Peter in Hotpress (Jan 14, 2004)Collapse )

Nov. 30th, 2004 @ 09:19 pm Wolfman: the best friend a man could ever have
I bought Napoleon today (his 2nd single). Lots of thanks inside. Followed by 'Wolfman thanks absolutely no-one'.

Obviously now he's given Pete his hit single, he doesn't need him anymore... ;)

In other news: interviews, downloads, and so forthCollapse )

will update this when I've actually listened to Wolfman. Putting off the evil moment
